Discology is celebrating it’s first year in business by having a party on Friday, November 23rd from 6-9pm. Come one, come all and snack on something other than leftover turkey and cranberry sauce! And it’s FREE. We will be also exhibiting the “Thank You Show” for all of the artists that exhibited this year with a new group show. We also plan on having a couple of DJs in house to spin some good ol’ spanking vinyl.
Thanks to everyone for the support over the past year and making my dream come true. Viva La Discology!!!

We have several big events this month and want to inform all fellow Discologians of our intentions of making October more than just the month with Halloween in it. Let’s list them off:
Friday, October 12th– The Artist Reception for Kate Ingram- Watercolorist. What’s cool about Kate is that she just graduated with a Masters in Biology and comes to her Art with a different perspective. This is a FREE event. Reception is from 6-9pm.
Friday, October 12th– On the same night, we are taking part of the Amblin’ on the Avenue event which entails a wine walk and a contest to win one of many prizes. Discology will be giving away a $25 Gift Card to one lucky winner who qualifies for the drawing by collecting stamps on a map of local participating local businesses. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased in advance at Clay Nichols. Amblin’ runs from 5-9pm.
Saturday, October 13th– Singer-songwriters Justin McMahon and Gordon Mayer will be performing at 5:00pm. Justin just put out a CD called …Worth the Wait and has some great songs on his MySpace page that can be found at www.myspace.com/justinmcmahon. Gordon is new to MySpace, so welcome to the insanity. He also has a great song posted on his MySpace page for you to check out at ww.myspace.com/gordonmayer. This is a FREE event.
Saturday, October 13th– From 10pm-Midnight, I will be co-hosting Retroshock with Willie on 97.3 Bob FM. This is my first time doing this and I am excited to be bring listeners of 80’s and 90’s music some unheard tracks and deeper cuts from such bands as Dead Can Dance Clan of Xymox, and U2. Also, in coordination with this show, Discology and Bob FM will be co-sponsoring a contest to win the Smashing Pumpkins box set Aeroplane Flies High. This set has been out of print for years and information on how to win will be available on the Retroshock show.
Saturday, October 20th– Neil Greene will be playing a set in the store at 5:00pm. Neil has played Discology on several occassions and is promoting his latest release Taxidermy. There will also be a track from his new CD featured in the magazine Under the Radar, on-sale at the end of the month. Neil’s CD can also be heard on the local artist listening station at the store. This is a FREE event to the public. www.neilgreene.net
Friday, October 26th– Special Halloween Art Exhibition. The reception for this multiple artist show will be on Friday, October 26th but will be available to view from October 25th through Halloween. Let’s see what these artists come up with when the veil is at its thinnest…. This is also a FREE event. We will be drawing the winner of the Smashing Pumpkins box set at 8:00pm!
Please email or call Discology for more information. Thanks to everyone who still supports local art, local music and local music stores. As we approach our first year in business, we will celebrate with a big bash, so stay tuned.
Thanks,
David

Vacation & Store Hours:
Discology will be closed from Sunday, June 24th till Wednesday, June 27th and will reopen on Thursday, June 28th. (Wish David and Malynda a safe trip to Washington State as we drop off Malynda at Physcian’s Assistant school!) Store hours will be reinstated to it’s original schedule of 10am to 7pm (Tue-Sat) and 11am to 5pm (Sun). We are still closed on Mondays.
New Vinyl News:
If you haven’t picked up your copy of the new White Stripes album Icky Thump, then maybe a copy on vinyl might do the trick. Word on the street is that the vinyl (or LP…or record if you prefer) has been mixed and mastered differently than the CD for superior fidelity.
This approach may indeed sound the bell for vinyl’s resurgance– and from the looks of it, vinyl sales are increasing accross the board. We here at Discology have also seen an increasing number of orders/pre-orders with each passing week, especially for those new releases which don’t always get pressed in large quatities. Whether it’s Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky (that also comes with the CD), or the reissue of Flogging Molly’s catalog on green vinyl, people of all musical preferences have been discovering and rediscovering the value that only a 12″ diameter disc can bring.
As an FYI, Joy Division’s catalog is also being reissued on vinyl this Fall–coinciding nicely with the new Anton Corbijn biopic called Control– which is about to be released domestically.
As a final note, special orders can be picked up on Thurdsday the 28th for this upcomming week.
Thank you for your support of independent music stores!

Just what you’ve been waiting for…your very own scarab logo T-Shirt from Discology…in stock and ready to wear. There are two variations of the shirt with the first having the Discology name on the front and the large scarab on the back. The other is the Scarab on the front and the Discology name on the back but up at the collar. These are black 100% cotton T’s with white lettering/logos. Be the first on your block to own one and support a local independent CD store at the same time for only $18 plus tax. And remember- black is always the best color to wear in the Summer months and at concerts.

Discology is scaling back the store hours for a few weeks which only affect the weekday open times. Instead of 10:00am, we will be opening at 1:00pm.
Special Orders are increasing with every week that passes; new releases, imports, and new release vinyl are growing so much so that we are expanding our “New” section as well. If you are aware of a new CD that is coming out soon, then don’t hesitate to call or come by and order one for yourself or a friend. And remember that if a birthday or Father’s Day is coming up on your calendar, then a Gift Card is sometimes the best gift–especially if it can be redeemed later on the new release or special order that isn’t out quite yet.
We thank you for your continued support and appreciate your business.
