About

Discology is a used/new/rare music store located in Reno, Nevada. We carry CDs and DVDs as well as New Release Vinyl. Special orders are never a problem with our well stocked distributor in California so we can get you most releases within a week. We also have a listening station set up exclusively for local and independent musicians to sell their CDs through. Discology supports local musicians like no other and gives them back 100% of their price tag (less tax). You should hear all of the great music that comes out of Reno!

Here are some common questions regarding our other services that no self-respecting music store would be without.

Don’t see what you’re looking for? Can we special order it for you?

Special orders are a great way to get what you don’t see here even though we carry music in every genre. We order weekly, so we ask that you let us know what you’re in need of– be it a new release or a catalog title that we don’t see come in as a used title. If you’re looking for anything specific or have a list, we will keep and eye out for what you might be looking for and contact you with a price when we’ve located it.

Looking for that hard to find or out of print title?

We have an expert research system to locate the music you’ve been missing for years. Sometimes it only a matter of price that seperates you from that missing CD, LP or DVD. A lot of music is technically out of print but that shouldn’t keep you from getting what you want. Let’s do some research for you and see what’s out there. It’s the reason that the store is called Discology– as in Disc-ology!

Do you have a scratched CD or DVD?

Here at the store we have a professional CD and DVD polishing/resurfacing machine made by Azuradisc that can resurface your scratched discs so you don’t have to buy them yet again. At $3.00 per disc, it is the cheapest and most effective way to revive your media. And while not everything can be saved, we can tell you what can and can not be polished with a visual inspection. Around 98% of all discs can be resurfaced and made to look and play like new again. Bring in 10 discs and polish them for the price of 9. If you are out of state, please contact the store about shipping your discs to Discology for resurfacing. The turnaround will depend on how many discs you send.

Do you have a vinyl LP that you love but it has never been mastered to CD or is out of print at an unreasonable price?

We can master your LPs onto CD for a reasonable price with track markers and a liner sheet with the song titles on it. Transfers will sound just like your vinyl LP but will not include the needle drop and pickup at the beginning and end of each side. Every effort will be made to make it sound as good as possible, but a 30 year old LP that has had a lot of love is going to sound like the same well-loved record. For one vinyl LP transferred to CD, the cost is $10. If you can get 2 LPs onto an 80 minute CD, then the price will be $17. If you have a combination of LPs and 45s, then the price is still $17 per CD.

And for cassettes?

The same applies in terms of quality and reproduction onto a CD. Prices differ for cassettes though due to length issues. Thus, a 45 min. cassette side is $10 but anything up to 80 min. is $17. A 60 cassette falls into the $17 price point. Also, a 90 min. cassette has to be split onto 2 CDs with 45 min per disc, so it’s $20 for the two discs unless you want something excised to fit it onto the 80 min. CD for $17.

Do you carry Gift Cards/Certificates?

We carry Gift Cards that are rechargeable and never expire. Whether it’s for a birthday or a holiday, Gift Cards are a great way to get your music lover a gift without digging through their collection to see if they already have it.

Our Store’s Location

Our store is located with the Truckee River Gallery which is about 25 feet to the left of the Century Riverside Theater doors. Parking is available in the garage on W. 1st St. & Sierra St. Bring your ticket and we can validate for 1 hour.

Also

We can consign your used CDs for a 50/50 split (in most cases) when they sell. The only time you won’t see 50 percent coming back to you is if your CDs are scratched and need to be resurfaced and/or if your CD case needs to be replaced. Although you’ll have to wait for your music to sell in order to take a payment, you’ll simply see more profit coming back to you when you do.

So…

When in the area, please feel free to just stop by to chat about your favorite bands and music.

    Hi Mitch,
Thanks for taking the time and effort to come by and see what’s going on at Discology. It was a pleasure talking to you and I’m stoked that you like the Glaciers LP. Remind me next time and I’ll give you some Glaciers swag if you’re interested. See you soon.

    Dave,

Did some research on If These Trees Could Talk, found out that their LP was a limited release of 400. 100 on blue vinyl, 300 on green vinyl. Hope they will decide to reissue it on vinyl one day.

    Hey Mitch,
Thanks for the update. I am also hopeful of the reissue on vinyl. That’s a pretty low number that was pressed so I hope that it shows up again soon. Maybe Discology should press another run.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hey Mike,
Thanks for the research. I’ll be posting this one soon. $77 seems like a fair price.
